What’s underneath the overwhelm?

The problem isn’t always what it seems.

This week on the podcast, I sat down with Gail McDonald—Professional Certified Coach & Founder, Blind Spots Coaching, and someone who knows the caregiving burnout spiral all too well.

Gail didn’t start out wanting to be a coach. She wanted to be a flight attendant. But like so many of us, life offered her something different—and in time, more fulfilling.

As we talked, something stuck with me: When someone’s overwhelmed, the real issue is rarely what they think it is.

Stress, low motivation, or that “why can’t I get it together?” feeling often isn’t the problem. It’s the symptom.

✨ What’s underneath?

  • An unmet need

  • An outdated belief

  • An old story we’re still carrying

We talked about the power of presence—how you show up for others without getting swept into their storm—and how vital it is to come back to yourself when everything feels heavy.

⚒️ This Week’s Strategy

Take one minute today and ask, “Is this really the problem? Or is there something underneath it?”

Then pause. Be curious.

The more we build awareness, the more resilient we become.

And if you’re in a helping role, this practice isn’t optional—it’s essential.
